What the???? Eldon, Alberta?

My virtual bike ride across Canada is at 832km and has me landing in Eldon, Alberta -  Its seems that Eldon is just a small group of houses.  Let see where next week will take me....on WAB1234's tour across Canada!

Testing the Lynskey Pro29 FS-120 Part 2

Last year in January 2013, I reviewed a Lynskey Pro29 FS- 120 with 650B wheels -  At the time, Cove Bikes evaluating a new design for a 650B bike and a full suspension frame from Lynskey was sent out for review.  The bike - a FS Pro 29 frameset was built up.  The issue Cove had was that with the new thinking of low bottom bracket heights and slack geometry, the FS was modified to fit this thinking.  The bottom bracket height of the FS was close to 15" unweighted.  and Cove decided to put on a 140mm fork and 650B wheels - lowering the bike's overall center of gravity and slacking the angles.  The ride that was produced was a stable but require more steering input into the steering either by leaning or steering into the corners.  I didn't mind the ride but felt uncomfortable when speed started to pick up.  Check out my first review of the bike Testing out cove lynskey 650b-ti Cove ended up sticking with their tried and true hardtail model ( Cove H...

A Good Ride Causes Me to Reflect How the Trails Got There

I don't know why I didn't start mountain biking sooner than a couple of months ago.  The fun and the satisfaction of each ride is such an awesome relief that I can't wait to ride again.  The trails on the Sunshine Coast are so diverse and numerous that you could ride all day and not ride on one single trail twice.  However, there are trails that I exclaim "Let do that again!". I have to pause sometimes during my rides to ask the question, who were the harden few to build these trails?  We know of the modern trailbuilders like Brad Proctor, Glen Ellingsworth, Cap University guys, Rod Camposano, and Guy Bullen.  Also the numerous others that built a couple of trails and add those to chain of trails that we call "Sunshine Coast trail riding".  We're they the first? Got It Right - Its Dumb Ass Luck - Whishart 29'er 140mm Long Travel Hardtail

Its taken close to 6 months from design to build to decide if I made a mistake in the design. The build: - Whishart 29'er - steel hardtail - Paragon sliding dropouts; fillet brazed - Black pearl - Toxic Design Labs - 67deg HT; 73deg ST - SRAM XX1 Drivetrain - XTR M-985 Crank with Wolf Components 30 tooth ring - Easton Haven 35mm Stem (50mm long) - Chromag 35mm carbon bar - Easton EC90 XC Wheelset - RS Revelation RLT 140-110 DP Fork - SRAM Guide RS Brakes - RS Reverb Dropper Post - Nevagal 2.2 Front tire - Conti Trail King 2.2 Rear tire Weight 27.2 lbs Okay - so I know that most people could never afford this type of bike or get why; however not withstanding, mounting these parts to a never ridden; only designed frame.  But, as soon as I mounted the pedals, strapped on my shoes, and threw my leg over top tube, I knew I had winner!  The bike rides like its 27.5 bike on steroids, with short snappy rear end, short wheelbase, stiff & amazing ride.  It climb...
