2010 to 2011 Blog Posts - Virtual Tours

Over the past two years of having this Blog and fueled by my personal passion for cycling, I have posted blogs and have let people know where to ride on Sunshine Coast. Certainly the two elements has blurred a bit.

My blog has become many things including my training diary, my vessel to share my experiences with the world, promote the Sunshine Coast and to share in other cycling stuff that I find personally interesting.

My Homepage has my posts over the 2010 - 2012 years. When training for certain events, you get bored of analyzing data every which way, so in 2010 I started a virtual tour across Canada with the my cumulative training distance over the years and posted on Google Maps. It started out innocently enough with a question pondering if I virtually rode across Canada where would I be and what towns would I visit. The journey has been an interesting one and we live in a very vast and diverse country. Read on....

And the final mileage is.....

Its January 3rd, 2011 and its time to figure out the last year riding season, pick goals and assign some metrics.  First the mileage:  3401km and 142 hours!  I probably spent more time on my bike than any other activity, next to family time, working and sleeping.  I don't now where I'll find the time this year to ride without sacrificing the other 3 things on my list.  To get the 2011 key metrics is to analyse the peaks of the weeks of 2010.  I started riding around March.  And peaked for the year around mid July.  That's 4 months of riding and after May I started to put on big mileage with the Circle Ride (160km - Day 1 and 120 km - Day 2).  There was a lesser peak during the week of Granfondo.

During the x-mas break, I've established 3 key goals to establish me a key athlete.
  1. Duathlon - March 7th - 5km run - 20 km ride - 5 km run.
  2. Kelowna Granfondo - July 12th - 120km
  3. Levi Granfondo - Oct 1st - 160km
Key metrics for me to follow:

- increase leg speed through running for the duathlon.
- increase VO2 max through more hill climbing
- increase cycling average speed through intervals.
------------------------------------------------------
So, I've started running and its been hard. And cycling on the trainer has been harder (boring).
